Melissa Jean Metcalf (born February 22 1996) is a gymnast from Desert Devils Gymnastics in Mesa, Arizona. She was a former Junior Elite for one year in 2008 but has battled injuries throughout her career. She has an older sister, Sheridan, who is a former level 10 gymnast. Following high school graduation in 2014, Metcalf will attend UCLA and is signed to their NCAA team. 

Competitive HistoryEdit


Metcalf qualified to Level 10 in 2006. She finished 3rd at Arizona State Championships and later came 7th at Regionals. She the qualified through to J.O. Nationals and finished 17th in the Junior A division. 


Melissa came 5th all-around at States. She was also Arizona State beam champion.  She came fourth all-around at Regionals. She again qualified to Nationals and finished 4th all-around, earning a spot on the National team. 


She was Arizona State champion on the all-around and on bars, beam and floor. She tested for Elite and qualified. She competed at the VISA Championships finishing 20th all-around and 9th on bars. 


Metcalf struggled with injuries during 2009. She didn't compete all-around once during the season and didn't compete at States, Regionals or Nationals. 


Melissa competed on all events except floor during the seasons meets. She didn't attend States, Regionals or Nationals again. 


Melissa advanced to States winning bronze on bars and beam, the only events she competed on. 


Another year battling injury, she competed only at three meets during the season on bars only. 


Metcalf returned to full fitness for 2013. During the season, she won all-around at the Parkettes Invitational and Heart of a Champion meet. She was also Arizona State champion and Region 1 Champion. She returned to Nationals after a 6 year absence from the competition. She placed third all-around and was bars champion.


During the season, she won the California Classic and Arizona Grand Invitational. She finished first at States but had a disappointing result at Regionals, finishing 13th. She didn't advance to Nationals.
